Certain submits your app to the Apple App Store and Google Play for you. On Android, we publish under Certain's Google account, so you don't need a Google account. We do need a signed content rights letter (PDF) from you, which gives us permission to publish your branded app. It's uploaded in the CMS under Prepare to Publish > Rights Letter, which has suggested text you can copy. On Apple, your organization needs its own Apple Developer account.
First, choose how attendees get your event on iPhone
- Your own app in the Apple App Store. You need your own Apple Developer account. Follow the checklist below.
- No Apple account. Attendees use Certain's GatherNow app on iPhone and iPad to open your event. You skip Apple's yearly fee. See GatherNow App Publishing.
Plan for about 2 weeks between your request and the app being live in the stores.
Set up your Apple Developer account
Setting up the account isn't hard. Apple charges a yearly fee for it.
- Go to developer.apple.com/enroll.
- Create an Apple ID for your organization, or sign in with one you already use for it.
- Enroll as a company or organization. You'll need:
- Your legal company or organization name
- The authority to sign legal agreements for your organization
- A D-U-N-S number. It's free; get one at dnb.com if you don't have one.
- Business documents Apple asks for to verify your organization
- Complete the forms Apple sends. Once you're approved, you're the Account Holder and you manage the account in App Store Connect.
Note: If you already have an Apple account, make sure it's an Organization membership, not an Enterprise Program account.
Apple checklist (before every submission)
- Your membership is active. If it expired, your Account Holder has to renew it before we can submit anything.
- The latest Apple agreements are accepted. Apple adds new agreements from time to time, and only your Account Holder can accept them. We can't submit an update until they do.
- Certain is invited in App Store Connect (steps below).
Invite Certain in App Store Connect
- Sign in at appstoreconnect.apple.com.
- Go to Users and Access.
- Click + next to Users.
- Invite this user: first name Bruce, last name Russell, email appledeveloper3@certain.com.
- Give the user the App Manager role, and check Access to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles under Developer Resources.
What to send with your request
- Your event or app name
- What you need: a new app, an update, or new store images or text
- New images or text, if you're changing them. See App Store Submission for sizes and character limits.
Apple emails you can ignore, and ones you can't
- "Your iOS Distribution Certificate will expire": no action needed. We make a new one with every update, and your live app isn't affected. See Certificates and Provisioning.
- "Apple Push Notification certificate expiring": no action needed. We use push keys now.
- "Your Apple Developer Program membership has expired": action needed. Your Account Holder renews it.
- "New agreement to accept" or "Action required" from App Store Connect: action needed. Your Account Holder accepts it.
FAQ
My Android app says "Submission requested."
That status shows when a new event is added and an app update is due. It doesn't mean anything is broken.
When will attendees see the update?
Once the stores approve it. Phones with auto-update get it on their own; others update from the store.
Can you move our Android app to another Google account?
The account owner has to start the transfer.
Can I preview the new Touchpoint design?
Yes, in the GatherNow app before your own app is updated.
Next step: Once the checklist is done, contact Certain Support with your request.
